President's Column

God's hand directs the smallest details of our plans and actions in Pilots for Christ. The following are two examples of God's hand upon PCI.

Before Jeff McConnell from Grants Pass, Oregon knew about Pilots for Christ, he was searching for a meaningful way to serve his community. He enrolled in a class for volunteer work with the sheriff's department. As the class progressed, he felt a restlessness that he couldn't pin down. One day during class, he started to write down the things that he truly enjoyed doing. At the top of the list were Christian service and aviation. He got so excited about thinking of these possibilities that he left the class to drive home.

On the way home, he called his wife Jackie and asked her to search the Internet for anything connected with Christian aviation. Jackie soon call back to say, "There is an organization called Pilots for Christ and are you ready for this?....the president's name is Jim McConnell"! Jeff took this as a sign from the Lord and the rest is history. Jeff helped organize PCI's Oregon chapter and became its president as well. This chapter is one of our fastest growing chapters and is busily serving Jesus through community outreaches to include mercy flights, working with disadvantaged children and other activities.

There is no limit to what God can do. Jim Guynn and I flew a Virginia chapter mission last month to Canada. The patient was a stretcher case in considerable pain from terminal cancer. Carolyn Ricks, our flight nurse, tenderly ministered to the patient's needs while Jim and I handled the needs of the flight. The weather was bad. We landed at Bangor, Maine in an 80 degree cross wind of 31 knots

gusting to 36 knots and that was just the beginning. A serious squall line of thunderstorms lay across our path to Monton, New Brunswick, Canada, our patient's destination. As we approached the treacherous squall line, the thunder storms directly in front of us parted as if the hand of God separated them to open a path for us. On the way back to Bangor, God once again parted the squall line for us.

Truly, we serve a wonder-working God!

Jim McConnell
